4 Ways to Unlock Hope This Year!

Happy New Year! Feliz Ano Nuevo! Welcome Back!  I venture to guess we have all heard or verbalized these expressions so far this year. It’s the sound of the new hope that lies within us for the New Year 2016.

We are thinking of all the new ideas, fresh perspectives, or possibilities of unleashing our potential onto the world.

Many of us may have also heard or said things like “back to the grind” or “another year of the same ole same ole.” Sometimes the trials, hurts, anguish, pain, fear and failure stick with us more than the victories, successes and achievements of the past year.

How can we overcome the challenges we experienced in the past? How can we be encouraged to keep on the track of success that was experienced last year?

God’s word helps us with this

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.”
– Proverbs 13:12 ( The Holy Bible, NKJV)

Here are 4 ways to access this hope.

1.  Ask Jesus to lead our journey.
We should take the Good Shepherd’s hand and walk, in faith, with the Creator God.  Acknowledging Him will allow us access to His vision for our lives.

2.  Choose a Scripture for 2016 that will guide the year.
Allow this Scripture to be a part of your daily interaction with God, family, friends, co-workers, etc. (Maybe it’s Proverbs 13:12)

3.  Create a Fasting Plan.
As believers in Jesus Christ, our future with Him is secure. However, many world-driven distractions can cause us to drift. As tough as it is, engage in a family fast from things like TV, Facebook, alcohol, caffeine and choose healthier diets to create a unique opportunity for deeper connection with the Lord. (See the book “The Fasting Edge” by Jentezen Franklin)

4.  Set Goals, Not New Years Resolutions
Set three to five  S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measured, Action-Oriented, Realistic, Time-Limit) goals in 7 key areas of life (check out Zig Ziglar’s Wheel of Life)

Doing these things will set you apart to glorify God in 2016. Glorifying God will bring great joy. There will be challenges that await, we can all count on it. When they do come, read Romans 5:1-5 (NKJV) and remember that God has a PURPOSE for YOU!

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”  – Romans 5:1-5 ( The Holy Bible, NKJV)

Here’s to Purpose in 2016!
