Christmas time has come! For some, it was here after the day after Halloween.
Here are 5 tips to help all of us keep perspective this year.
- Be Yourself
Christmas consumerism can have an adverse effect on our life. Consumerism can mitigate the good that we have right in front of us. A way to defend against that temptation is to be yourself. Many times, in this society that wants to keep pace with “The Joneses'”, we want to compete in gift-giving this Christmas season. Scratch that idea from your mind. Instead, do your best to enjoy all the gifts that you have received this year. Good gifts like Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world! Other gifts are your family, jobs, personality and the list goes on. Let’s continue the Thanksgiving we recently had throughout the Christmas season.
- Help Others Be Themselves
When presented with the opportunity to purchase gifts for others, I have often gone the gift card route. Why? It’s easy and quick and as a driven person, I love to check the box next to the person’s name that says “Complete”! In this case, there are many things that can be purchased or not but maybe there are some creative outlets that can be used. A great way to give well is to lead well by giving gifts that encourage someone in their goals, personality traits or hobbies. Ok, well those gifts can be gift cards!
- Increase the Peace
Christmas is a definite bright spot on the calendar in a world that is overridden with fear, anxiety, anger, frustration and hoplessness. Christmas is Jesus Christ. The Savior of the world was born with a purpose and for a purpose. He was the best gift given to us. This is the time to believe and receive the goodness of God. The Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, was born in a manger in obscurity. Thankfully, that is not where he stayed. God sent Him as a man to live without sin, to set example for us to follow and to die on the cross for us as payment for our sins. We are free because of the birth, life, death on the cross and resurrection to sit at the right hand of the Father. When you know, live and love this message of Jesus Christ and share it with others, you will increase the peace.
- Spread Joy through Networking
Recently, I attended a Grace Family Church Purpose Career Ministry networking event. Each time we do the event, I take a few minutes to speak about the heart, vision, mission and goal of the Career ministry. Our guest speaker that night called me the next day and was looking for some advice. I had the chance to connect with her on the challenges she was facing and encouraged her through the trial as many have done for me in the past. I got a chance to smile through the phone, love on my friend and spread joy through looking beyond myself through networking. She called me the very next day to let me know that God was working on some BIG things already!
- Set a Goal to Give All-Year Round
In a recent radio show, with Dave Ramsey‘s Chris Brown (@ChrisBrownOnAir) and Katrina Madewell of Tampa Home Talk, we discussed how to be a giver all-year round. Chris mentioned 1 Corinthians 4:1, which states “This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed.” By being a giver all-year round is the best way to bring Christmas and Jesus Christ to the world! So set a goal for 2016 to allow the Holy Spirit to bring people to the Living God through your giving heart!
Merry Christmas everyone!
